Ice Ice Baby

This past Saturday night {my first in the new apartment} I attended my first hockey game. Accompanied by a few good friends and my sweet husband, I spent the evening by the ice rink cheering on the Riverhawks and {honestly} worrying slightly about a puck flying over the glass. I am certain it would have resulted in a concussion. Have you seen the way they hit the puck?! Despite the worry wort in the back of my mind, I had a great time cheering and learning about icing, boarding, and the rules of the game. Suffice to say that I've got some great friends in this town.

vancouver or bust

i love the winter olympics, {snowboarding, ice hockey, alpine skiing, downhill races, and figure skating? yes, please} so i have been in heaven lately with all the olympic coverage on the news.

some of my favorite moments thus far:

{shaun white winning gold in men's halfpipe}
i really enjoy watching men's halfpipe snowboarding because it is something that i would never be able to do. the thought of doing three or four flips over six feet in the air with a snowboard attached to my feet sounds like absolute fear to me, but it's just another day at work for shaun white.

because hers is just a really good story {overcoming an injury and being thought of as a "pin up girl"} & because she is a girly girl who is also outdoorsy. {she fits right in here at hiking in stilettos.}

because i really like speed skating for some reason & because shani davis supports an organization to bring speed skating to inner city kids in dc.

{the tango by russian ice dancers oksana domnina & maxin shabalin}
as a dancer myself, {although not of ice}, i really appreciated their grace and poise. one of my pet peeves with dancers of all types is closing in of the upper body {ports de bras for you dancer types}. the reason that this team displays such ease on the ice has a lot to do with their open & lifted upper torso. in short, it was a beautiful tango.

Athleta

For those of you who may be interested, the Gap/Banana Republic/Piperlime family has a new member, Athleta. As its name states, Athleta is a site for contemporary athletic wear. The site cleverly allows you to shop by sport for everything from yoga to swimming to triathlons. Athleta has definitely caught my attention with its vibrant apparel proving my point that ones workout wear can still be {somewhat} fashionable. An All-American Evening

This past Saturday, K and I went to the Braves baseball game with one of our favorite couples, my girl Kindredly and her hubby. I haven't been to a major league baseball game since high school, and it was a blast. We munched on a yummy seven-layer Mexican dip (my sister's recipe) and turkey burgers in the parking lot before heading into the stadium. When in Rome, right?

The Braves won, which made the evening end on a happy note despite the cold weather that crept in when the sun set. Luckily the kind woman sitting beside me shared her blanket. God bless her!




Overall, the night was a definite success, and I think we'll be repeating it once the weather warms a bit. While the boys had some manly bonding time, Ashley and I talked mostly about fashion and decorating. It was perfect! You should definitely check out her blog; both she and her husband are hilarious, plus she's super stylish.
