Back to Black & White

Black and white is a combination that I often overlook. I own very little black, a fact that I am slowing changing, and usually pass up what I do have for something more colorful. But lately I've been drawn to the simplicity of black and white outfits, pairing patterns and textures instead of color. I especially love the print of this top and the hi-low hem.

What are your tricks to keeping a black and white ensemble interesting?

these boots were made for walkin

and that's just what they'll do. one of these days theses boots are gonna walk all over you...

i just can't wear my cowboy boots without singing that verse at least once.
{as a kid, i used to strut around the house in cowboy boots singing this song at the top of my lungs. some things never change.}

this is what i like to call a "running-errands-around-town-all-day-so-i-want-to-be-comfortable-and-warm-but-still-be-cute" kind of look. it's also a good "i-just-came-from-a-yoga-class-and-now-have-errands-to-run" look.

  {iphone likes to peek out of the side pocket of this bag. hello iphone!}
sweater, anthro; jeans, target; boots, vintage; bag, urban

what do you wear on your days spent yogaing, grocerying, targeting, shopping, running to the bank, post office, etc?

spring fever

it happens about this time every year. the weather becomes slightly warm, and the sun begins to peek out, making the daily highs in the 60s. unfortunately, it's still january, and this spring-like weather won't last. nonetheless, i can't help but long for warm spring days full of sunshine spent in skirts, sunglasses and sandals. i find myself pairing florals with stripes and gravitating towards outfits full of color.
and this year, my spring fever is especially bad.

i love all of the nautical trends and corals that are popping up everywhere.

and i have always had a soft spot for stripes.

my feet can't wait to get back into summer sandals.

sigh. i know that these days of indian spring are fleeting, but i am really looking forward to spring this year. maybe mr. groundhog will see his shadow and spring will come sooner rather than later. :)

The Battle of the Beds

I have finally decided to leave behind my feminine, shabby chic Anthropologie quilt and opt for some new bedding that is slightly more man-friendly. Of course, I now have my little heart set on this quilt from Anthropologie. It is kelley green with hints of orange and gold which will compliment much of my furniture, and it isn't too feminine. (Ok, I know. It is floral, but given that my quilt now is pink toile, I say this is fair. Plus, it's beautiful!) Not to mention that it will look wonderful with a lot of the linens and fabrics that I already own. Added bonus, K is fine with it! Now, I just have to get some gift cards together to be able to buy it....

ABC's

I absolutely adore monograms when it comes to accessories and housewares (purses and clothing aside), so when I saw these necklaces in the Anthropologie catalog, I was in heaven. My friend Erin bought me the "A" for Christmas, and I ordered the other letters online since the store had sold out. The layering of the pieces can be a bit tricky as a couple of them are the same length, so if you want more than one, you may have to choose the same ones as I did. Also, if you are not interested in having your initials around your neck, choose letters that are meaningful to you... your mother's first name, the name of a spouse or significant other, children's names.

In addition to the necklaces, I also received a monogram soap dish and a wooden cutting board from two of my favorite people. I love that the cutting board comes with its own silver spreader! It will look wonderful in my kitchen hutch beside the great lettered mugs and dessert plates I found at Anthro on clearance!

Monday Meltdown

After a loooong weekend of intense studying, too much coffee, and too little sleep, I broke down... I bought skirts... from Anthropologie... and they are absolutely wonderful. (The pictures do not do them justice.) At least my purchases will be applicable to my professional dress code. I can't wait to get them and make outfits with them! Hmm.. looks like I will have to find some great brown boots to wear with the owl one...
