Jekyll Island 02

Part two of our weekend trip to the Georgia coast...

 The sunrise over the ocean was so lovely, with the long boardwalk and the natural beach making the perfect backdrop. I love the rocks separating the sand from the bushes and palm trees. At high tide, the water covers the bottom steps of the boardwalk.

We took little E to the salt water pool a couple times during the trip, and he learned how to splash! He had fun splashing himself in the face, getting startled by it, then laughing. I love that kid.

My sister in law was married on the hauntingly beautiful Driftwood beach, which reminded me of Hunting Island (one of our favorite camping destinations). The ceremony was simple and sweet, and the reception was perfect. Good food, sweet memories with friends and family.

I Walk the Line

Two years ago today husband and I united our lives forever, and have enjoyed every single day since. A delicate mix of joy and sorrow, these past two years have been heart-breakingly wonderful. While I know that we have a long road ahead filled with uncertainties and hardships, I also know that we will face them side by side and nothing in this world change that.

if the shoe fits

when i got married, i vowed not to be one of those gals who ditches her wedding dress into the back of the closet never to be worn again. {since mine was a short, strapless from anthropologie, i will have a much easier time of this than most ladies i know.} so, next month i will be wearing my dress for our dear friends' wedding.

the only problem? i don't want to wear my wedding shoes. i love them, but with the dress they look too much like something a bride would wear. and so begins my search for a pair of colorful peep toes.

moschino via piperlime, luiza barcelos via amazon, joan & david via piperlime, modcloth

charles david, pour la victoire, steve madden

i can't decide between teal or pink, but i am leaning more towards the teal. i do like the pale pink steve maddens, though. i definitely don't want to look like i am getting married, and an oatmeal colored dress and nude heels may do just that. i think the pop of color with teal peep-toes would be just perfect, especially if they are a bit quirky like the modcloth or moschino ones.

{and no i will not be getting either of those... they're a bit outside of the pharmacy student price range}

what are your thoughts?

happiness is...

this cake from our wedding shower this past summer.

because it was beautiful, delicious, and it matched the hand-made invitations
because it was so perfect that i didn't really want to cut it
because my mom & sister worked so hard to make every detail of the day absolutely perfect
and because it reminds me how lucky i am to have such a wonderful family.

sending a little bit of happiness your way,
xoxo

24. 1. 10

"general opinion is starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but i don't see that. it seems to me that love is everywhere. often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. when the planes hit the twin towers, as far as i know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. if you look for it, i've got a sneaking suspicion... love actually is all around."

09. 05. 09 {i walk the line}

i keep a close watch on this heart of mine

i keep my eyes wide open all the time
i keep the ends out for the tie that binds

because you're mine
i walk the line
as sure as night is dark and day is light
i keep you on my mind both day and night
and happiness i've known proves that it's right
because you're mine,
i walk the line

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.

Playing in the Rain {an engagement story}

We had planned our vacation for months... road-tripping to the Gulf of Mexico in the Mini, spending five blissful days surrounded by white sand and teal ocean waves, accompanied only by the characters in our books. Given our opposite work schedules, time together was often difficult, and this trip was our getaway.

We left out early on a Sunday morning equipped with strong coffee and self-made playlists for the road, ranging from Bloc Party and old Jimmy Eat World, to Iron & Wine, Damien Rice, and, everything in between. We took mostly back roads, so the drive was peaceful and filled with the lovely scenery of southern Georgia... tall green grasses, cotton fields, and a clear blue sky.
Ecstatic to be on vacation and contented to be together, we made plans for the beach the next day. Unfortunately, we woke to find our view of the ocean distorted by fog, clouds and drizzling rain. I reacted as any rational girlfriend would. I became a terribly grumpy beach-goer. We hauled our chairs, books, and towels down to the sand, daring the clouds to release their contents, and no less than ten minutes later, the clouds let loose. Wet and grumbling, we hauled everything back {across the street, mind you} into our room.

My mood continued to darken, but the thought of food and eating on the beach brightened my spirits a bit. We decided to walk to a beach-side restaurant, but as we began our stroll, the rain began again. Grumpier than ever, I settled for dining on a covered porch with a view of the sand and ocean.

After dinner K convinced me to put on my rain jacket and play in the rain on the beach. He was absolutely determined to break my bad mood. We had driven all the way down to the shore to enjoy ourselves and relax together, and that was exactly what we would do, rain or no rain. His happiness was contagious, and soon I found myself shrouded in my raincoat with my jeans rolled up to my knees, wisps of hair plastered to my face jumping in the waves and searching for seashells with K.

"Come look. I found a really good one!" K said. Drunk with love and laughter, I skipped over to see what treasure he had cupped in his hands. When he opened them I saw the most lovely, most perfect diamond ring. He didn't say anything; he just looked at me, his brown eyes wide and dancing, raindrops falling off his jacket hood, a slight smile on his face. Not capable of speech myself, I simply looked up at him, smiling as he placed the ring on my finger. "So you will?" he said. "I would always choose you to be mine," was my response.

one year ago today i gave my heart to my K
here's wishing for a lifetime of playing in the rain together.
