Slouchy Chic

With cooler weather and morning drizzle making its way into the daily forecast, I can't help but long for over-sized, slouchy tops made from soft cotton or warm knits. Lately I've been equating cool mornings with slouchy tops, skinny jeans, and knee-high boots. While I've never been a fan of wearing one's sweatpants out in public (save perhaps a trip to the gym or when camping), these pseudo-lounge items below have definitely caught my attention.

1. Tri Marl Tee - Topshop
2. Grace Sweatshirt - Duskin (on sale!)
3. Oversized Toffee Knit - Michael Kors
4. Ruffle Bib Oversized Sweater - Sonia Rykiel
5. Back Zip Sweater - Marc by Marc Jacobs
6. Luck is in the Cardigan - Modcloth
7. Slant Stripes Top - Anthropologie
8. Casual Observer Sweatshirt - Modcloth

What are you cozy-ing up in theses days?

It's All About the Wedge

If I had to choose only one item from my closet to build an outfit around, it would almost always be shoes. I love my skirts, dresses, and tights just as much as any other fashion blogger, but I am a firm believer that even the simplest, mundane outfit can be transformed by a great pair of shoes. Currently on my radar are these lovely gems below. Who says wedges are only for the spring and summer?

top row, clockwise:
Granite Elastic Wedges - Topshop
McSpirit - Aldo
Suede Fringe Wedge - Urban Outfitters
Calcagni - Aldo
bottom row, clockwise:
Minimarket Pleated Wedge - Urban Outfitters
Wisteria Chiffon Tie Wedges - Topshop
Wisteria2 Diamante - Topshop
Annton - Steve Madden

Which ones are your favorites?

Style Tips from the Dutch

When it comes to clogs, one tends to think of a little girl with blond braids yodeling away on a mountain side. This ever-popular footwear is historically associated with Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Sweden and is typically worn by rural workers for protection. Clogs have come a long way since their nineteenth century debut, and although I wouldn't bet my toes against sharp objects in any of these, they do combine the traditional Dutch style with effortless finesse.

{clockwise from the top}
1. Jose Get On Up Slingbacks - Bloomingdales
2. Prima Sling Clog - Topshop
3. DVF Octavia Wedge - Nieman Marcus
6. Jessica Simpson Winsy - Piperlime

sequin sensation

something that i cannot currently {or ever} get enough of:
sequins

i have always gravitated toward sparkly, shiny things,
{i blame it on my ballet days of sparkly pink tutus... or just my innate girliness}
and sequins are pretty much always at the top of my list.
that being said, i am in heaven with the current sequin trend.

sequin sensation

sequins add a layer of glamour to any outfit,
from casual jeans and a blazer to a party dress for the holidays,
and they are showing up everywhere from the runway to ann taylor loft to F21.

here are some ways to include sequins into your wardrobe:

i will definitely be breaking out some of my favorite
sequined items for more than just holiday parties,
but what about you, lovely readers?
will you be exploring the new sequin trend
or do you think these pieces are just too over the top?

wsj. fall roundup

with nyc fashion week on the brain,
i was very pleased to receive an email from wsj magazine
with a sneak peek at some of their favorite fall trends.

black beauties {the chunky black shoe}

heavy necking {saving the glamour for the accessories}

other incredible articles in the upcoming september issue include
rough luxe {where feathers and fur meet leather and wool}
fall: dark and handsome {a guide to sleek, chic coating}
and many more.

i think part of the reason i enjoyed these articles and slide shows
is because they highlight pieces that i am actually wearing...
chunky black booties? yes, yes
statement necklaces? still loving them
sweet but edgy combinations? always a favorite
...or things that i am still on the lookout for
{the perfect eggplant colored coat, a peacock-inspired skirt}

and for you dear readers,
what are some of your favorite fall looks this year?
and where are you finding your inspiration?

when it really MATTErs

for those of you who may be interested,
OPI has a new line of matte nail colors.

this is very exciting
why? you ask...

as someone who changes nail polish about every three days,
and someone who searches multiple drug stores for matte nail colors,
i am simply thrilled.
don't get me wrong, shimmer and sparkles have their place,
but i love matte finish on my nails.

which colors are your favorites?
i am loving the lincoln park after dark {i already own the original, which is stunning}
and alpine snow. in fact, i love them all!

Fall Inspiration

Despite the temperatures determined to remain above 80 degrees, there has been a slight cool breeze over the last couple of days (notice the heavy emphasis on slight). Still, I can feel that fall is finally on its way, and I cannot wait to break into some of my fall faves.

As I was rummaging through various Fall 2008 RTW collections, I noticed a trend that I plan on exploiting: pairings of solid jewel tones.. and only solid jewel tones. I am typically drawn more to patterns, but gone are the days in which I would say that outfits comprised solely of solids are plain. For example:

Proenza Schouler
The color combination here reminds me of changing leaves.
This look would be great for a holiday party, a night out, or even a professional situation.

Rachel Roy
Again, I am drawn to the vibrant solid of the dress.
The feathers at the neckline add a great element of embellishment without being too overstated.

Michael Kors
Although I am not a huge fan of the jacket, the pairing of a chartreuse top and amethyst skirt is lovely. I would throw on a pair of raspberry or pumpkin tights to complete the look.

Other looks that I love:

Equestrian-inspired Carolina Herrera
Aside from the amazing dress, I love the hat. The color keeps the look from being too overdone (remember all the brown tweed hats like this floating around last fall?), and the feather is just wonderful.

Mad about plaid: D&G
Although it is a bit much piled together, I love each piece of this look individually.  I especially like the pairing of the plaid tights and dress.

Fall Trends: Neckline Embellishment

Many designers are jumping on the overly-embellished neckline bandwagon with their fall lines, and I could not be more excited! I love the idea of the overly-done collars in part because I absolutely love scarves and chunky, multi-layer necklaces. Here are some pieces I found on Style.com.

Brian Reyes

Valentino

Yigal Azrouƫl

BCBG

I especially love the BCBG dress. Here are a few slightly (may have to wait till the Anthro pieces go on sale) more realistic options for indulging in the neckline embellishment trend.

Free People Bubble Sleeve Sweater from Urban Outfitters

Chloe Schempf Customized Tee from Urban Outfitters

Dove's Flight Sweatercoat from Anthropologie

Pas De Deux Cardigan from Anthropologie

Adrianne Cardigan from Anthropologie
