Life lately has meant long days at work, busy weeks, lazy {but productive} weekends, small projects around the house, afternoon espresso, the last few fires of winter, puppy feet warmers, and delicious weekend brunch (made by husband).

Sambo's First Year

It hardly seems like it was a year ago we added sweet Sambo to our lives. When we got Sam we were living in a small rental house far from our family and friends, had just lost K's mom to cancer, and were looking towards my last six months of pharmacy school. It was a difficult time in our lives, but also filled with moments of joy. We grew closer as a couple as we struggled through those six months together. And we added Sambo to our lives. 

Since then, he has been on many adventures with us, and it's hard to imagine life without him. Coming home every day is so much sweeter when there is a furry face and wagging tail to meet you. He gets so. excited. And evenings are filled with laughter as he tries to sneak his way onto the couch to cuddle. {Sam weighs about 55 pounds but believes himself to be lap-size.} There's no doubt this furry little creature has wiggled his way into my heart and taken up a permanent residence.

Christmas Card Outtakes

One of the highlights of last weekend was putting reindeer ears on Sambo and taking our family picutre. He hated it! For some reason, the ears put him in a weird place. He kept tucking his tail, flattening his ears, and lowering his head... all while looking up at us with his eyes. Poor little guy! Nonetheless, it made for a few good laughs.

Weekend Adventure No. 331: Upper Chattahoochee Campground

Lately husband and I have both been suffering from a bit of wanderlust. Maybe due to the insanely beautiful weather, the long list of upcoming changes in our lives, or just the constant need to feel connected to nature... either way, we needed a little weekend escape. Our original plan was to head back to one of our favorite spots in Tate City, but despite our early morning arrival on Saturday, all of the campsites were taken! After getting over our disappointment and scouring the map for another campground, we decided to head to the Chatahoochee River area. The site where we ended up was just perfect. In fact, it may very well be a new favorite of ours.

The weather was simply gorgeous on Saturday with warm sunshine and a cool breeze. It cooled off a bit after sundown, making the campfire the perfect companion to storytelling and dreaming up ideas for our house.

This was the pup's first camping trip, and suffice to say that he's definitely found the right family with us. He loved the water... After he realized it was okay to get in, he went bounding through the river full force. More than once he caught a wild hair and ran full speed in circles picking up sticks and running into trees {I kid you not}. It's safe to say he enjoyed the adventure.

We are planning a return trip in the future with plans to visit this section of the AT, which is nearby.

Meeting Sambo

With me being in school and us not having any little tots yet, the past couple of years husband and I haven't really done much for each other in the way of Christmas presents. We exchange stockings and spend money on trips such as our honeymoon to Pagosa Springs and Durango, Colorado and weekend getaways to Bryson City, NC or Abingdon, VA. This year, however, I really wanted to do something special for husband's Christmas. We had spent the previous ten months apart, moved into a new {rental} home, and recently made a lot of tough decisions, so it was the perfect time for a new puppy in our lives.

Growing up, K always had a dog. Some of his favorite childhood memories involve his mother and their golden retreiver, Sambo. We adopted a five month old boxer-german shephard mix from the local humane society, and naturally, we named him Sambo. He is absolutely the perfect pup for us. He loves running on trails and hiking trips but is very calm and quiet and really loves to be snug.

Here's to new additions and new beginnings.
