mapping out the future

there is something so wonderfully intriguing about maps i think. maybe it's the association with travel and adventures or because they make me think of my husband or perhaps its the nostalgia of trips past. regardless of the source, my love of maps is transcending into my tastes in home design.

this is my favorite use of old maps. unfortunately, we don't have any glass doors, so this project will be tucked away for our next home.

i love the simplicity of this print over a sofa. i think it would work quite well with my new-found love of clean lines and neutrals.
{available on etsy}

this would make a really unique focal point in an office. the challenge is finding such wonderfully colored globes. i imagine painting them would require more artistry than i am equipped with!

how about a map of your favorite city to greet you when you walk in the door?
{via apartment therapy}

or hanging above the bed in a guest bedroom?

these ideas have come a long way from a world map with "where i have been" pushpins, don't you think?

coloring {inside} the lines

i am absolutely dying to paint the walls in our apartment,
but unfortunately, it is very much against the rules.
still, i am so inspired by these lovely images
and wish that i could paint our walls turquoise.

in a living room or den:

in a bedroom in combination with chartreuse:

in a vintage kitchen with pops of red:

behind the sofa with a "keep calm and carry on" print:

in an office with black and white contrast:

or perhaps a turquoise door somewhere?

definitely in our next home.
the only problem would be deciding which room....

selby inspirations

i find that the most difficult room in a house to style is the office.
given a blank slate and an unlimited budget,
i am quite certain that i could create a magnificent library,
complete with stylish, comfy chairs, floor to ceiling bookshelves,
a cozy fireplace, and incredible lighting...

however, when dealing with a {somewhat} small apartment
and a basically nonexistent budget,
the task becomes significantly more difficult.
alas, i am taking some office inspiration from the best,
the selby.

love the pink walls {of course}

love the red shelves

i do adore chalkboard paint

the difference in the self heights here adds interest

love the map, the collage-esque corner, and the use of books to add height

schoolhouse rocks

tree lover graphite pencils from see jane work

it's that time of year again when my life gets lost in the world of academia,
when reading textbooks takes priority over reading novels,
saturdays are spent at coffee shops with notebooks instead of girlfriends,
and a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils adorns my desk.

among my favorite things about the return to academia
is the search for office supplies.
{everything from notebooks and binders to desk organization}
here are some of my favorites for this school season.

from see jane work:
animal cube notepad

thomas paul filing accessories

i am not a paper cup

magnetic birdie

from etsy:
cameo push pins from regansbrian

anemones folder by puncontrollable
{i'm such a nerd; i know.}

vintage train case by getreadysetgo
{perfect for office storage/organization}

even when my world no longer revolves around the academic calendar,
fun, unique office supplies will always make me smile.
happy return-to-school, my lovelies.
