Five {little} Blessings

This week somehow sped by yet moved at a snail's pace, leaving me ready for a Friday night at home with husband. I tried to soak up some relaxation this weekend in an effort to make it through the whirlwind of the next few weeks.

Perfect green avacados that were made into guacamole and shared with girlfriends.
My favorite Essie polish, Ballet Slipper.

Remembering some of my favorite trips from the fall & looking forward to spring adventures.

This little guy singing outside my window. I especially love his mohawk.

A Saturday morning trail run with husband.

Where did you find happiness this week?

Time Warp

Time Warp

Do any of you feel as though time is simultaneously moving incredibly quickly, yet painfully slow? My days are brimming with appointments, deadlines, and assignments, and yet the weekends always seem so far away. It's honestly quite bewildering. Nonetheless, I've been enjoying the challenge of dressing in only my allotted 30 pieces, and this ensemble was no exception. As you can probably tell, I've been remixing with my vintage cowgirl boots quite a bit. It's due equally to the fact that I adore them and the fact that my other brown-orange boots finally bit the dust. I also love the quirky character these boots bring to an otherwise mundane outfit.

Color Splash

Color Splash

Silk dresses are one of my favorite assets in my closet. Living in the south, they are equally valuable for winter layering and for breezy summer days. This one, previously seen here, was in constant rotation this past summer, and I decided to break it out from it's neglected corner of my closet for the 30 for 30 challenge. It's saturated colors were the perfect compliment to an otherwise rainy, grey weekday, especially when paired with a vibrant raincoat.

I've Got the Blues

Blues

My college roommate and best friend tends to shy away from darker blue clothes as they remind her of her private school uniforms. And while it's an aversion I can completely understand, I wasn't required to wear a uniform in high school and tend to welcome blue garments into my closet with open arms. So much so that I styled an entire outfit revolving around the color. And chose sheets in a similar hue, but who's keeping track?

9 of 30....

Fridays are always my favorite day of the week. I have two days off with husband in the immediate future, no impending schoolwork to think about until Sunday afternoon, and the possibility of a long trail run on Saturday morning. That being the case, I typically dress with lots of color on Fridays, and this past Friday was no exception. The vibrant coral-orange jacket even kept a smile on my face during the entire 5&1/2 hours of class. Well, that and the fact that it was the weekend.

Five {little} Blessings

This week began with an extra day off and remained relatively quiet thereafter. There were a couple beautiful days of sunshine and warmer weather, which were a welcome change from the cold. And while I'm still adjusting to my new routine and look forward to weekends more than ever, I've found little ways to make the days just a bit sweeter.

Matching Stripes

After I looked through these pictures I realized that the stripes in my cardigan match the stripes of the siding. Apparently, I have a thing for stripes. If you were to look into my closet you would find that I need another striped garment like I need a hole in the head, and Lord knows that I need a hole in the head. I already have trouble remembering where my keys and phone are located. Striped clothes, on the other hand, I have no problem finding.

I kept this outfit pretty simple because I've been getting a few questions about what I wear on a daily basis to school. As a graduate student, we only have a professional dress code on certain days, so jeans are pretty typical for me. So is this outfit above. I really only wear flats if I am going to be doing a lot of walking or standing around in the hospital. If you were 5'0" you would wear heels on a daily basis, too.

Color Me Happy

I recently posted an outfit inspired by the neutral colors of the winter landscape, and it honestly left me longing for the most colorful pieces in my closet. Since I can't pull all of them out, however, I settled for the combination of stripes and flowers. This orangey-coral has become my go-to color for spring, and I look forward to pairing this cardigan with many other spring tops.

In other news, we picked up this incredible vintage couch over the weekend, and I am completely in love. I am having the cushions recovered in a similar turquoise pattern and will post an update once it is finished!

Cheddar-Dill Scones

In light of the recent three-day snow/ice storm and a long weekend, I decided to spend some time with one of my favorite chefs, Ina Garten. Baking was definitely on the weekend agenda, but sweets were certainly not. I'm still detoxing from all of the Christmas goodies. So I pulled out this book and flipped through until I found the recipe for cheddar-dill scones. They were the perfect companion to a bowl of soup and also worked well with my favorite egg recipe for Saturday brunch.

Happy Baking.

Shades of Grey

The only problem with winter is that the landscape tends to develop a dreary, desolate character once the snow has melted and the grass has withered. The trees are bare, and the only color on the running trail is the green of the coniferous pine needles. While I do rather love a good pine tree, I am left anxiously anticipating the greens, yellows and pinks of spring. Normally this results in colorful outfits and coral-colored lips, but today I decided to take a cue from my surroundings and embrace the greys of winter.

It was a fun challenge to dress in accordance with the landscape, but if I'm being honest, I'd rather dress with color...

Coffee & Keira

Keira Knightley is one of my top five favorite celebrities and has been since college. I envy her long, slim frame and love her feminine but rebellious style. I am always inspired by her photo shoots and have yet to watch one of her movies that I don't enjoy. {This one is still a favorite.} I stumbled upon these shots while blog-hopping and enjoying my morning coffee. I am drawn to the slightly unfocused frames and juxtaposition of the settings. They are just too lovely not to share!

Five {little} Blessings

Three consecutive snow days

This week began with a snowstorm and three days of laziness low-key bliss and transformed slowly from there. With only two days of classes, it was a rather easy way to transition into my new place. And considering that Monday is a holiday, this three day weekend will ease my sorrows about next week as well. Some may call it denial, but I'll face my five day separation only when I absolutely must. Here are five of my favorite things from this week that made it just a little bit sweeter.
